Sideward in front, two small islands, where a fortress was built in the fifteenhundreds.
Among orange, palm and olive trees, the small boat harbour, from which small, medieval streets depart with old houses, the small church, chapels, villas and gardens.
The name is connected with water: from celtic “Cenn in ar”, point on the water.
The climate is, even for this area, particularly mild, therefore “Riviera”, added on special government concession.
The hinterland consists of mountains with numerous villages: Right above, on the cliff, Oggiogno, just south, Donego, right beneath Cassino and Ponte, at the beginning of the road to Trarego, Piancassone and, on the old path to Cannobio, Cheggio.
The favourable agricultural conditions have encouraged settlements from pre-historical time.
