Camelia’s Show

 

CAMELIA'S SHOW 2019: from Saturday 23rd to Sunday 24th March 

 

From the 60’s Cannero Riviera was the theater of Camelia’s re- evaluation, that, after a great success in the 1800’s, was  forgotten. Here is reborn the passion for this wonderful flower and every year is revived with success, the “Camelias Show” which offers:

- An exposition of flowers and compositions
- The opening of ancient gardens with century-old specimens of Camelias
- An excursion to the “Camelias wood” in the hamlet of Cheggio
- An excursion to the hamlet of Oggiogno, a little village on the Mount Morissolo, founded in the 1896, that in addition to the typical rural houses has beautiful villas of the 1800s-1900s.

- mini-cruises to the castle of Cannero

The show is divided in two parts:

- Scientific
- Exhibition

The scientific part is composed with panels that describe the origin of the plants, the methods of propagation, the artificial pollination, the various kinds and species that can grow in Cannero: Japonica, Reticolata, Sasanqua, Sinensis, Chrysantha, Cuspidata, Fraterna, Oleifera etc.. and discusses various forms of flowers and leaves, structure and position of the stamens, the position and the various kinds of petals, the history of camelia, the most know diseases and parasites.

 

All the scientific notes are accompanied with handmade drawings or photos taken in our gardens..

The exhibition part of the cut flower comes with more than 250 species of camelias brought by local growers, from Lombardy, from Switzerland,  by amateurs and admirers of this lovely flower, for an exhibition area  of about 300 square meters.

the visitors coming not only from the neighboring regions but also from Switzerland and Germany, besides being able to appreciate the beauty of flowers and the beauty of the environment in which the exhibition is held. Thanks to the kindness and professionalism of the staff accompanying the tour, you’ll learn about the Camelia ,about Cannero Riviera and the surroundings.

The visitors can participate in the walk in the Camelias wood, in Cheggio, or  the excursion to Oggiogno, where you are totally immersed in  nature.  Once you’ve reached Oggiogno, it’s possible to visit the ancient wine press, built in 1742 and the ancient Grà for drying chestnuts.

For visitors who love the lake there are organized mini-cruises to the Borromeo’s castle, aboard of a catamaran with solar energy, from which you can enjoy the view.

All of this contributes to making these events a success, honoring the great tradition of our land, which deserves to be appreciate and valued.
